John Harvie
                 1989 Membership started with 45, Gained 5, Lost 1, ended
                                         year with 49. Theme for the year “ Enjoy Rotary”
                                         President  John Harvie was very much towards efforts
                                         being made that would help children or in his favourite terms
                                         for them  “The Weans” the Club followed his lead this year
                                        and were able to present Telethon with a cheque for£7000.00.
                                        25th Anniversary dinner held in the Stuart Hotel cost per 
                                        person £15.00. Fines for not wearing name badges seemed
                                         to be causing disharmony amongst some members.
                                         President spoke to the Club this resulted in an emergency
                                         meeting being held where a vote was taken and it was
                                         passed 25 to 6 that fines would cease. Visitations arranged
                                         for Rutherglen, Cambuslang,  Paisley, Kittoch, Cumnock,
                                          Stornoway and Ballerup. Cost of lunch to be increased to
                                          £4.00 this would include a 25 pence levy towards our 25th 
                                          Anniversary. A special invitation went out to the  Rotary Club
                                          of Ballerup requesting a representative to be present at our 25th. Anniversary on the 27th April 1990. Ole Brammer  and his wife Hanne attended and at the same time he officially made Rotarian Joe Strang our first Paul Harris Fellow at  our lunch meeting on the 27th April 1990. Secretary Edwin Robertson made a  presentation gift of the 25th Anniversary cake to the Club. Our 25th Anniversary dinner in the Stuart Hotel saw a full house with 26 clubs being represented, the newest club in the District Blantyre were given a special welcome at the Roll call of Clubs. Principle speakers were Provost Helen Biggins, District Governor, Douglas Davis, Rotarian Ole Brammer from our twinned club Ballerup and Bill Burnet well known after dinner speaker Evening was chaired well by President John Harvie and the vote of thanks given by David McNidder. The Club used this occasion to give a substantial cheque to Mark McManus of “Taggart” fame to be used for“Children in need”Twinning link with Ballerup was held again this year with the Danes coming to East Kilbride. President John Harvie and his wife Jean gave an open house supper party for everyone involved with the hosting on the last night of the visit.
