Special Projects from Jack Blackwood
Here we are again into full swing of the Rotary year and it looks like it will be full of fun!!! But relax you have a month to get ready.

As an aside ‘Relay for life’ final figure raised by you the club is £ 15000.00 PPPP ‘Wee Frankie’ is well chuffed. Great effort and no doubt will continue to support this great charity. However I am keen in arranging ‘fun days’ that will focus and promote local causes over the next few years.

In September we have ‘The Beatles night’ organised by Brian Wood for your entertainment at the Holiday Inn, along with a ‘race night’ horses this time not frogs I am told, but maybe not at the Sports Club in aid of the  Archie King Homeless World Cup effort. Both of the events will be championed by the above so bring a ‘pal’ or two and enjoy.

October brings a few new challenges; one dear to my heart is ‘sensory gardens’ to be built at several care facilities, the first being at the Fourfaulds Alzheimer Unit, keep an eye on the notice board for ways to help, not all brawn and muscle needed, could be old seed incubators, cuttings, help by driving materials etc. Good to get your hands green again.
The second  being the ‘4x4’ day at Drumclog followed by the obligatory ‘Strathaven Ales’ tasting. Some help is needed to ensure that PP Johns ‘old girl’ is up for the job, so I need some volunteers to get down and dirty to scrub her up.

We have the Special General Meeting, along with the District Conference, but more important this year is to support good old Leslie in the ‘Annual Dance’ November brings the Annual Dance on the 19th along with The Kids Christmas Toys Quiz Night and the Schools Chef Competition which given last year’s success should be an exciting month so please support and enjoy.

Roddy has brought you ‘thanks for life’ project and to plant a further seed Roddy is suggesting a ‘Good Walk ‘again at Easter over three or four days Melrose to Lindisfarne. I am mentioning the walk at this point, as it will take a bit of organising.

Enjoy the first part of the year and I will update you on the Xmas ward decorations, the Xmas Static Pub Crawl with George’s Table Top Curling Challenge and many other ‘exiting’ events in the next issue.
